Can I confess something? I freakin’ love astrology. I’ve always been intrigued by it, and I do truly believe that there are certain traits that certain signs posses. Of course, everybody is different, but I will defend the opinion that all Scorpios are strong-willed or that all Sagittarius folk need their space. I say this as a Scorpio dating a Sagittarius. And luckily, my boyfriend feels the same way about astrology that I do.
But what if I were single? I’ve been down that road, and I’ve tried OkCupid and Tinder (among others), and I gotta say, it was kind of a bust. So based on my love of astrology and my love of dating apps/sites, I would definitely try Align.
What is Align? It’s an app that matches you up based on your astrological sign. Look, I realize some of you may be reading this and rolling your eyes, but hear me out.
If you’re open to it, here’s how it works. First, download the app (duh). Then, you log in via Facebook, and enter your bday info. Then, your profile is created and the matching begins! How? From Align:
TRAITS - Based on your sign, you are presented with a list of sign-specific traits and emojis. That’s right, friends. They’re different for every sign.
DAILY CONSTELLATION - Each day, you receive a constellation of potential matches. When you both Align, it activates an in-app chat platform. Your constellation refreshes each day at midnight. We here at Align weren’t too cool with the dating app trope of swiping “yes” or “no” with a split second decision. On Align, you have the option of Aligning, or simply waiting until the constellation refreshes tomorrow. You have all day to decide to Align.
Each profile is one of 4 colors: red represents the fire signs, blue represents the water signs, green represents the Earth signs, and yellow represents the air signs. So once you set up your profile, you get assigned a color and can pick your list of pre-selected traits and emojis and a “constellation” of your matches. Your matches are shown as photos in a constellation, and the bigger the photo is, the better the match. You can also get an “in-depth” report on the person you’ve got your eye on. And it’s all based on your sign!
But there are some downsides. One is that you can’t choose your profile photo, as Align automatically pulls your most recent Facebook photo to use as your profile pic. (They do note on their site that they are planning to change this.) And the other big thing is that for now, Align is only available in Los Angeles, though they are planning to expand.
Look, obviously, I adore the idea of using astrology, and it’s not because I necessarily hardcore believe in it. It’s more because, why not? It’s not harmful. I’d never suggest you should outright avoid a sign that isn’t deemed compatible with yours — the heart wants what it wants, right? I see Align as a sleek new way of breaking the ice. And also, we gotta base compatibility on something, right? Why not base it on a few selected traits and emojis? Why not bring some fun and ease to dating?
What do you think? Does astrology factor into your dating life?
