There’s always that moment when you’re first dating someone new where you have that feeling that indicates whether or not it’s actually gonna go somewhere. And it’s either a sinking feeling, or a sunny feeling. It’s a feeling of, “Oh crap, this isn’t gonna work” or “Oh my God, I think we may actually have something here.” Both moments are full of intense emotion, and both ultimately decide which path you’re going to embark on. But sometimes, you’re caught right in the middle, and you don’t know which way you’re leaning. That’s tricky.
So here’s a list of things to check off in your mind, to help ask yourself, does my partner have long term potential? Some of them are obvious, and others, maybe a little less so. How many can you think of?
…they’re entirely over their ex.
…they’re happy to meet your friends.
…and they’re just as happy to meet your family.
…they want to be your date to a wedding.
…they care for you when you’re sick.
…you feel you can bust out your sweatpants around them.
…they remember your birthday (and celebrate it!).
…they make space for you in their apartment/house. Even just a drawer or a shelf in their bathroom.
…they don’t have a substance abuse problem.
…they can be spontaneous when needed.
…but they can also plan things, when needed.
…they’re all around happy.
…they love your pets, if you have any.
…they support you and your endeavors.
…they don’t let you beat yourself up.
…they’re happy to stay over, or have you stay over.
…they know how to cheer you up.
…they’re happy to treat you.
…they partake in your guilty pleasures with you (like bad TV).
What are some signs you can spot in a someone with long term potential?
