Jess & Becky co-created Dating & Hookup and co-founded J&R Creative Media. They have been best friends since they were 12.
This Romance Reading Series, which has been written up at Beatrice and Time Out New York among other press, is hosted monthly at Madame X. That would be at 94 West Houston, 7-9 PM, $5 admission (or one gently used romance novel) with proceeds to benefit local women’s charities.
And if you’re not in NYC, check out the satellite salons!

This week in (after-the-fact! my bad! sorry) NYC Happenings, the indescribably witty and wonderful blog STUFF HIPSTERS HATE turned one-years-old. So there was a party at The Woods. And weirdly wild band Not Blood, Paint played for an hour, wearing gold, sparkly togas and matching face glitter.
Jess and I were in attendance in our BK best (I wore my hot pink denim mini-skirt). And we can report.
This should surprise exactly no one, but it turns out that even in a land where tradition is truly celebrated – in the form of tea, crumpets and drunk Parliament members – dating is pretty much dead. Gone the way of the Beckhams and Ricky Gervais’s The Office. Welcome to the UK!
They call it “ambigudating” across the pond. So of course, Jess had to weigh in! Check out this fun, advice-laden interview that she just did with Glamour UK:
All About Ambigudates
And while we’re at it…if you haven’t already read it (and retweeted it – those Mashable folks rule the Twitterverse!), learn a bit more about us and our foundation story in Brenna Ehrlich’s awesome Mashable profile – Dear Abby Rebooted: Love Advice For The Digital Age [Blogger Profile].
“…the girls behind what could be the world’s first crowd-sourced relationship advice blog, WTF Is Up With My Love Life?!“
Damn, that’s good. Pretty sure we just figured out what’s going on our next round of bumper stickers.
Check out this great Sirens Magazine article about young female entrepreneurs by the lovely and talented Julia Bartz – featuring us! We’re absolutely thrilled to be mentioned alongside the other women profiled here, all of whom are doing awesome and inspiring work.
Also – didn’t know that Becky and I went to band camp together? Well, now you do.
Hey guys! Listen to our interview with the magnificent and insightful Roxanne Neilson here.
and do check out Zonta – an organization that does amazing work for women worldwide.
For a few minutes, at least.
Tomorrow – Wednesday, June 2nd – Becky and I will be appearing on our hometown regional radio station WVOX as part of the Zonta Women’s Community Radio Project. The show will air from 11:30am-12pm and will be streaming live on www.wvox.com. Or, if you’re lucky enough to live in Westchester County (where Becky and I met 15 years ago at an overcrowded middle school lunch table), the Bronx, Queens or Long Island, then you can tune in to 1460 AM and listen to us that way.
…to inform you that Jess and Becky are going to the Sex and the City 2 premiere in NYC tonight!
My friend Tom Isler is making a documentary about this rather extraordinary couple. Allen and Collette consider 7th Ave in NYC a “long hallway” in their shared life together. Both middle aged, they have lived 20 blocks apart, in separate apartments, for the entirety of their 4.5 year long marriage.
That is, they did live separately, until the economic collapse forced them to re-consider the state of their finances, the state of their real estate, and therefore the state of their wedded bliss… So they are moving in together! We’ll have to wait for the film to be finished in the fall to know exactly how their relationship (and Collette’s West Village, rent stabilized apartment) have fared, but from the trailer it looks like the couple has been dealing with irksome issues large and small.
datingandhookup.com is a website that explores modern romance in the Millennial era – which, let’s be honest, looks nothing like we were taught to expect. We feature essays, advice and social commentary with humor, compassion and brains, and we vow never, ever to publish a piece called “The 10 Best Ways to Satisfy Your Man in Bed”.
